Indian PM Modi launches e-RUPI a digital India drive

 

‘e-RUPI’, a pre-paid digital payment voucher, which will help government to completely removed leakages in distributing government subsidies.

 

e-RUPI will promote end to end digital transaction, which will be quick, safe & contactless distribution and no digital or bank presence is required for redemption. The e-RUPI payments will cover welfare schemes of the government, and can also be used by the corporate sector. In near future organisation can take a lead to give an e-RUPI voucher instead of cash for the welfare scheme like education, medical treatment or other work. It will ensure that the payment will be used for the work for which purpose is assigned.

 

It’s an excellent innovative digital solution launched by National Payments Corporation of India(NPCI) in association with Department of Financial Service(DFS), National Health Authority(NHA), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW), and along with 11 partner banks. The users of this seamless one-time payment mechanism will be able to redeem the voucher without a card, digital payments app or internet banking access, at the merchants accepting e-RUPI. E-RUPI would be shared with the beneficiaries for a specific purpose or activity by organisations or government via SMS or QR code. Redemption will be two step process to ensure safety for the customer.

 

Indian government transfer various subsidy or benefits to consumers in the form of cooking gas subsidy, ration, medical treatment, scholarship, pension and wage disbursal to more than 900 million through DBT scheme directly to their accounts. As per rough estimates around Rs 18 lakh crore has been transferred directly to their account. e-RUPI will add completely new dimension to digital governance. It is going to play a huge role in making digital transactions, and DBT more effective which will bring back transparent and leakage-free delivery system.
